Amitabh Bachchan turns down degree from Australian Institute

Amitabh Bachchan has rejected an honorary degree from one of Australia’s institutes’ Brisbane University. Why might you ask? He is protesting against the recent violent attacks against Indians living in Australia. Last Sunday, a petrol bomb was thrown at an Indian Student in Sydney. On the same day, four Indian students were attacked by a gang at a Melbourne Party. One student was left critically injured.

“I mean no disrespect to the Institution that honours me, but under the present circumstances, where citizens of my own country are subjected to such acts of inhuman horror, my conscience does not permit me to accept this decoration from a country that perpetrates such indignity to my fellow countrymen,” Bachchan wrote.

More than 2,000 Indians in Australia have gathered to protest against the violence.
