India’s film producers and distributors have not released a new film to the multiplexes since April 4 because of a fight over box-office revenue shares. Currently, producers and distributors are sometimes getting less than 40% of the box office revenue. Now, they are standing up for themselves and demanding 50% for the first-week.
Mr Screwvala, chief executive of UTV Software Communications – One of India’s biggest media companies, believes that the parties will end their bickering within the next two weeks.
The real loser in this situation is the Bollywood consumers who have not been able to enjoy watching their favorite actors and actresses in the multiplexes. Though multiplexes account for only 10% of the 10,000 movie screens in India, they make up close to 50% of the box-office revenues.
We hope this is resolved quickly so we can continue our search for the biggest bollywood fan.
